MANILA, Philippines—Gilas Pilipinas Youth showed nothing but pure dominance to begin its campaign in the Fiba U16 Asia Cup Seaba Qualifiers on Saturday night at Bren Z. Guiao Convention Center.
The Philippines’ U16 squad demolished Vietnam, 113-62, in PBA legend LA Tenorio’s first official game as head coach.
The Philippines led by just nine points over the Vietnamese at the end of the opening period, 29-20, but by the second quarter, Gilas Youth had managed to pull away–and for good–with a 61-33 lead.

Four young guns from Gilas Youth scored in double digits in the statement win, headlined by Travis Pascual, who finished with 16 points.
Prince Cariño also served as the Philippines’ anchor in the paint after turning in a double-double performance of 16 points and 12 rebounds.
Jolo Pascual scored 14 while Jhustin Hallare registered 10 points in the win that gave Gilas Youth an early 1-0 card.
Up next for the Philippines is Thailand, tomorrow night, at the same venue in San Fernando, Pampanga.
