The PBA has all but ruled out the staging of this year’s All-Star Weekend, one week after postponing the midseason classic in Davao due to “security concerns.”

PBA commissioner Willie Marcial said on Wednesday that scheduling issues with a prospective replacement cast doubt on the event, which is a staple of every PBA season.
“The initial plan was to have it scheduled after the [May 12] elections, but the [potential host] couldn’t commit to those dates,” said Marcial.
Marcial added that an alternative schedule in July is also unlikely since it will be held in the same month as the Philippine Cup Finals.

“Most likely there won’t be an All-Star this year,” he also said.
The league didn’t hold any All-Star editions in 2002 and in the pandemic-altered seasons of 2020 and 2021-22.
Davao was supposed to host the exhibition classic on May 2 to 4, with Digos City as the venue before Marcial bared the postponement last week.
While he didn’t reveal the potential replacement, Marcial said it was a previous All-Star host.
